Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Worked on this project for several days. I had to get rid of some of the elements because it was REALLY busy. I am proud of it and think it came out well. I have red, white and blue colors for the American flag. There was a lot of elements of the book/movie about the 1960's and 70's cultural movement and challenging authority. On the text I distorted, I added red, White and blue lights to reflect the Vegas lights. The actual Vegas sign is a photo of a magnet I had from a trip to Vegas I went on. I sketched/ traced the police car/ the convertible and Hunter in the drivers seat. The billboard was reflective of their hwy journey and was my idea for the book summary. I purposely made the road converge at the spine of the book. I felt like it could lead the eye to the title and the entire road did not have to be black to insinuate its purpose. The cactus pictures came from a picture I took of the cactus outside the Arts and Humanities building. The sand was a artistic film grain. When printing, the help desk guy told me it was very reflective of Gonzo journalism, which was a type of journalism invented by Hunter S. Thompson. This made me feel like it was very successful, and my intention when creating it. I felt like it was my personal version of my own interpertation and a combination of the previous book covers.
